
May 20, (THEWILL) – The duo of Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi and legendary music icon, Femi Kuti, have featured in a Yoruba Documentary, Bigger Than Africa, from the stables of US-based Nigerian Filmmaker, Toyin Adekeye.
The project debuted last week on Netflix. It was premiered at a private screening, which was held at the freedom park in Lagos.
At the event, media practitioners and arts inclined personalities praised Adekeye for promoting African culture and eminent personalities on a global view.
The documentary is meant to spotlight the historical influence of Yoruba culture and how it transcends continents and connects the black diaspora.
Adekeye described the movie as a necessary legacy for the Yoruba heritage.
The documentary also featured late Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Lamidi Adeyemi and other Yoruba culture enthusiasts.
Since it’s debut, the documentary has continued to receive widespread recognition and has screened at several film festivals, including Charlotte Black Film Festival, AFI World Film Initiative, Cannies and Silicon Valley African Film Festival.
Other traditional leaders and prominent figures mentioned in the documentary include Alaketu of Ketu, King of Port Novo, Olusegun Obasanjo, Wole Soyinka, Wande Abimbola, Nike Okundaye and Fayemi Elebuibon.
