January 15, (THEWILL) – General Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida rtd, former military president has opened up on why he has not taken another wife, twelve years since the death of his wife, Hajiya Maryam Babangida.

He however emphasized that he has not all together been living a bachelor life since then though.

Maryam Babangida died on December 27, 2009, at the age of 61.

Maryam, who was Nigeria’s First Lady between 1985 and 1993, died at the University of California’s Jonsson Comprehensive Cancer Centre (JCCC) in Los Angeles, United States after battling ovarian cancer for years.

Since her death over 12 years ago, there has been several reports that IBB as he is fondly called had taken another wife.

But when asked why he has not taken another wife many years after the death of his wife, IBB said: “No, I didn’t take another wife, if I had, you would have known.

“The media still snoop around me, they should have known. I haven’t. It is a matter of choice; I decided to honour her by being, not a bachelor but remaining unmarried.”
